Insulin Pump

Two Years on an Insulin Pump: Then and Now

Hey, it’s been about two years since I starting using an insulin pump. I use the Medtronic Minimed 670G Insulin Pump and it’s amazing! It’s not even the newest model any longer. I am sure that the 760G and 770G are even more advanced!

If I’m asked what my favorite technology is, it’s my insulin pump, by far. Not only does it give me life saving insulin 24/7, but it also has predictive alarms to prevent me from going low, and it never crashes. The battery lasts about 30 days and it’s easy to refill the insulin reservoir.

I used to hide it in my pocket. Now I wear it on my belt.

Transmitter signal seems a bit better this way. Less loss of signal incidents.

More visible. I want people to know. Insulin is very important.

More Trust that it’ll calibrate

I used to always watch it calibrate and keep checking to make sure that it calibrated. Now, I just tell it to calibrate and go on with my life. Having it not take a calibration is very infrequent, and if that does happen, it will beep loudly.

More relaxed in when I calibrate

I used to always calibrate before going to bed. Now, I occasionally let it be my alarm clock. I don’t mind if I have to calibrate first thing in the morning. It does me no harm to be without a sensor reading for a brief period of time while I’m sleeping in. The insulin continues to be delivered.

Confidant in Manual Mode too

I used to rely on auto mode all of the time. Now I have decent basal profiles and sometimes switch into manual mode for better control.
